Fanatic Scooters CUSTOMER CARE

Just like any other shop and business we assume a duty of care to our customers. However, where scooters are concerned, please help us and accept that 40 or 50 year old technology requires a lot of tinkering, adjustments and repairs. To own and run these vehicles you must acquire some knowledge about how 2-stroke engines work. Or join a scooter club or buy a maintenance and repair manual.

Where we have supplied a scooter that we consider to be in good running order the following terms will apply:

  • No warranty will be in force unless pre-agreed or paid-for. Please ask us about warranties available.

  • Customers with running or starting problems (which are common and frequent with these machines) may bring their scooter to the shop and we will allocate 20 minutes free time to running issues. Meaning advice, some physical tuning or adjustments. This could also equate to a phone conversation with our workshop.

  • Following a free consultation, as above, if the customer still feels there is a need for tuning the scooter would have to be booked in for paid-for tuning and enhancements to make it more reliable. This may include fitting an electronic ignition for example.

  • The after-sales service above does not include any travelling or recovery and we cannot allocate any time to travelling to customers' premises for tuning and running/starting problems.

Typical running/starting tuning issues are:

  1. Flooding of the carburettor.

  2. Blockage in the carburettor.

  3. Oiling-up of the spark plug.

  4. Weak spark.

Advice on these issues can be got free from the Lambretta Club GB, regional scooter clubs and manuals and books. we also publish a pamphlet on tuning and running issues.

More serious issues are:

  1. Low compression.

  2. Ineffective kick mechanism.

  3. No spark on the spark plug.

These issues should be checked by the customer at the time of purchase/collection/delivery. They can materialise for a number of reasons, including incorrect petrol/oil mixture, heat seizure, etc. After a customer has taken delivery or paid for a scooter these issues cannot be considered for free improvement or rectification and must be considered chargeable workshop jobs. However, we will still give the consultation and advice free of charge. There always MAY be a simple fix or a fixable sequence of problems.
